We have always wanted to do a cruise to Alaska….wondering if June would be a good month for wildlife viewing…whale watching, bears, Moose, etc…or would Sept be a better time?

Hi Michael! Thank you for asking a great question! The best time for viewing wildlife in Alaska is ANYTIME May through September. In May, the bears emerge from hibernation and the migration birds return. Also starting in May, you’ll be able to see Hoary Marmots, moose, Dall sheep, mountain goats, sea lions and Beluga whales. In June, the harbor seals come closer to shore. July is when the spawning salmon start heading up stream and you’ll see the brown and black bears trying to catch them. The Minke, Humpback and Killer whales also make their appearance in July. You can expect to see all these animals through September. To see elk sparring, come during September, during their mating season. If you want more information on booking a cruise to Alaska, contact Jeremy Hayes at jeremy@cruiseexperts.com.
