Martha’s Tips for Getting the Best Deal on Air

In many cases, one of the things that you must consider when booking your fabulous cruise vacation is your airfare. The price of airfare can definitely make or break your vacation plans, so you may want to take a look at some tips from our Air Manager here at CruiseExperts.com. Not only has Martha been in the travel industry for more than 30 years, but she is also well-versed in all the rules and regulations of various airlines.

If you want to have more money to spend on your cruise, then think about following Martha’s advice below on how to save on your airfare:

1) Book early
Even if your life is unbelievably busy, do your best to buy your plane ticket as early as you can. Waiting will just mean that it’ll be more expensive to get to your destination or worse, you may not get to go at all. You should also keep in mind that airlines typically designate just a few seats for passengers paying for their ticket using frequent flyer miles, so space fills up quickly!

2) Check the dates
In most cases, airline tickets are non-refundable so if you’ve mistakenly booked the wrong dates, then you may be out of luck. If the airline allows you to change your dates, there will probably be additional fees.

3) Contact your travel agent
Occasionally, flights change without notice. In order to ensure that you don’t get to the airport at the wrong time or day, you should speak with your travel agent about a week before your ticket says you are scheduled to leave. Your travel agent has your best interests in mind, and will gladly check with the airline on your behalf to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.

4) Look over the spelling
You may think it is a no-brainer to spell your name correctly, but occasionally airlines do make mistakes. The I.D. you are using and your ticket must match. If they don’t, you may not be able to set foot on the plane, at least not without first correcting the issue with an airline representative, and any changes to your ticket will likely cost extra.

5) Pack lightly
Start by being honest with yourself. Do you really need five pairs of shoes with you during your cruise? If you think about it, the answer is probably not. Airlines these days charge a lot of money to bring multiple suitcases and you’ll also be forced to pay extra if your bags exceed a certain weight limit. Take clothes that are easy to pack, and that you can use for different outfits.
