Top water activities to do in Nassau, Bahamas when on a cruise
From being the topic of a catchy Beach Boys’ song to the name of a tropical drink, the Bahamas has proven its worth in pop culture as one of the most luxurious getaways. Taking a cruise to this area provides plenty of fun in the sun, since you’ll be able to get off the ship and explore the gorgeous locale when you dock. In fact, there is so much to do in Nassau that we had to divide our blog into a series! Today we’ll talk about all of the fun-filled water activities this vacation destination has to offer:
Atlantis Aquaventure: Chances are you’ve heard of the Atlantis resort and have seen pictures of the breathtaking Mayan-inspired architecture. For a fee, cruise passengers can spend the day exploring and “playing” at Atlantis. Their water park contains 20 swimming areas, 11 pools, amazing water slides, a fun one mile-long river ride and more! If you’re a true thrill-seeker, try riding the well-known six-story Mayan Temple, where you can plummet down a shark-filled lagoon. Or, if you simply want to rest and relax, try the lazy river ride. Both you and your kids will get a kick out of everything Atlantis has to offer!
Fishing: Whether you’re an avid fisherman, or new to the sport, you will find what you’re looking for in the Bahamas. This location is even known as one of the very best fishing destinations in the world! The serene waters of Nassau are famous for their abundance of blue marlin. You can opt to charter a boat for a day or half-day, or tackle fly-fishing on your own.
Snorkeling: In the words of Sebastian from the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid,” life under the sea is simply better. Do you want to explore the ocean? If so, we recommend trying out a fun-filled snorkeling adventure. Swim among beautiful tropical fish and marine animals. Some under-the-water sights that you aren’t going to want to miss include iconic shipwreck, awesome coral reefs and the renowned Lost Blue Hole – a 200-feet wide natural opening in the ocean floor.
Spend a day on the beach: Vacations are all about rest and relaxation so we won’t blame you if you choose to sprawl out on the beach with a good book instead of tackling a daring adventure. After all, Nassau is known for its picturesque views and powdery white sand! This location is so gorgeous that many famous movies – including Pirates of The Caribbean and James Bond’s Casino Royale – were actually filmed here. The Bahamas typically experience 300 days of sunshine a year, with water temperatures averaging about 80 degrees. There’s a reason it’s call Paradise Island!
Swim with dolphins: If you’ve always dreamed of swimming with dolphins, now is your chance to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! This activity is ideal for guests young and old. “The extraordinary 14-acre environment of Dolphin Cay at Atlantis, Paradise Island showcases one of the largest and most sophisticated marine habitats and animal rescue-rehabilitation facilities unlike anything in the world,” reads a statement on Nassau Paradise Island’s official website. “It’s a magical place where swimming with dolphins and interacting with sea lions has been redefined, where you can go for a dolphin deep-water swim, or even join in a trainer-for-a-day program.”
