ATTENTION CUBA TRAVELLERS: The US has eliminated cruise travel to Cuba. Any sailings booked prior to June 5, 2019 will still depart as planned, but all cruise travel to Cuba after this date has been canceled.
Cuba is Expected to be the Hot New Cruise Spot for 2016
After a 50-plus year embargo, it looks like Americans may have the opportunity to cruise to Cuba. The U.S. and Cuba have been attempting to restore diplomatic ties and ease restrictions of travel between the two countries. In July of 2015 an agreement was reached to reopen embassies in Havana and Washington. Americans are anticipating a formal deal any day that would allow easier access to and from Cuba.
Traditional style cruises are still excluded; however, under the new “people to people” guidelines the U.S. has granted American traveler’s access to Cuba as long as their trip qualifies under one of the 12 approved categories. Some of these categories include:
- Educational activities in schools or people-to-people exchanges that provide an educational experience.
- Research and meetings
- Public performances, including sporting events, workshops, and exhibitions
- Humanitarian missions
- Family visits
- Religious events
Cruise lines that cater to the American clientele have taken note of this new agreement and under the new guidelines have started developing itineraries that will appease the people-to people exchanges, allowing Americans to have access to Cuban travel once again.
Leading the way is Carnival Corporation, the parent company of cruise lines such as Carnival, Princess, and Holland America, just to name a few. Carnival Corp. has already received approval from the U.S. authorities and are awaiting approval from Cuba to begin travel aboard their Fathom cruise ship line.
Adonia, Fathom Cruise Lines single 710 passenger ship, is set to start sailing from Miami to Cuba on its maiden voyage in May of 2016. Adonia’s goal is to “travel with purpose”, allowing cruisers the opportunity to interact closely with the Cuban people, gaining insight into the local peoples hopes and desires, developing a true understanding of the Cuban culture.
Aboard Adonia your Cuba cruise itinerary may include a tour of Havana’s UNESCO World Heritage site, a meal at an authentic Paladar, a Cuban home based restaurant; a chance to engage with local students, entrepreneurs, or local artists. The possibilities are endless and rest assured it will be a very memorable experience!
If you are interested in traveling aboard the Adonia it’s important to secure your spot as soon as possible. Booking cannot be done online at this point; to hold your spot call the CruiseExperts.com at 1-888-804-Cruise (2784). Rates start at only $1,800 per person.
Norwegian Cruise Line has also started looking into acquiring approval from the U.S. government to begin cruises to Cuba. If approved, they will most likely dedicate one of their smaller capacity Oceania cruise ships.
Cruise lines, such as MSC Cruises, are already traveling to Cuba; however their cruises are not being marketed to the American clientele, as they are a European based cruise line with separate set of regulations.
If you are interested in becoming a part of history in the making call us today at 1-888-804-CRUISE (2784). Don’t miss out on being one of the first Americans allowed to take advantage of this incredible opportunity! Space is extremely limited so call today and reserve your booking!
