A full walking tour through Old San Juan will take the entire day but the city of San Juan provides a free trolley to make exploration of Old San Juan a whole lot easier.

Explore the tunnels of Castillo San Cristobal, one of the largest defense buildings ever constructed in the Americas. Or, journey back in time and see what life was like as a soldier at Castillo San Felipe del Morro. Another fun tour available at the San Juan National Historical Site is the lighthouse tour. If you have children with you don’t miss out on the Discovery Center located next to Castillo San Cristobal.
While in the area don’t miss out on a free tour through La Fortaleza, once a fortress built to ward off attackers, this beautiful building became the governor’s place of residence and is now the oldest governor’s mansion still in use in the Western Hemisphere.

The Cathedral of San Juan Bautista is the second oldest cathedral in the Americas, the oldest church in the U.S. and one of the oldest buildings in San Juan. This cathedral is also the final resting place of the infamous Ponce de Leon, as his tomb is located on the grounds. Also located at the cathedral is the mummified remains of St. Pio, a Roman martyr killed for his religious beliefs.
