New Galapagos ship will deliver upscale Celebrity experience on a smaller scale
A new Celebrity ship will be cruising the Galapagos soon, delivering what is promised to be the largest and most luxurious accommodations in the destination. Celebrity Cruises recently announced plans for a new 100-passenger vessel named the Celebrity Flora that will be based year-round in the Galapagos. The ship will feature all-suite accommodations and specially designed viewing features that are unlike anything currently available on ships in the wildlife haven. Celebrity Flora is scheduled to begin cruising in 2019.
Celebrity is no stranger to the Galapagos. The cruise line operates three ships in the area now, although it will have to retire two from the Galapagos fleet once Flora arrives to comply with permitting regulations. Until Flora is launched in 2019, guests can choose from the following Celebrity Cruises ships for their Galapagos adventure: the state of the art 100-passenger Celebrity Xpedition, mid-sized Celebrity Xperience, or the 16-passenger Celebrity Xploration, perfect for travelers who want to enjoy the wild beauty of the Galapagos in luxurious comfort.
Luxurious suite accommodations
The cruise line designed Flora along the lines of its iconic Celebrity Cruises ships, just on a smaller scale. That doesn’t mean that the cruise line scrimped on comfort – the all-suite accommodations aboard Flora are designed to be the largest and most luxurious available in the region.
The top tiers of suites on Flora all include private balconies. Two Penthouse Suites are more than five times larger than typical Galapagos cabins, offering a generous 1,288 sq. feet of room. There are also two 560- foot Royal Suites and 350-sq. foot Sky Suites. Three additional categories of suites measuring 365 to 325 feet will feature Celebrity’s “infinite verandas,” a feature designed for the Celebrity Edge, a luxurious new ship currently under construction. These large window walls can be partially opened at sea, allowing guests to enjoy the sensation of a balcony.
A ship designed for Galapagos viewing
Celebrity Cruises designed Flora with a single goal in mind: to deliver the best Galapagos cruise experience. Wildlife viewing is the favorite pastime of Galapagos cruisers, so designers set out to open up the ship to offer more viewing occasions. Many passenger rooms and public areas will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, delivering unparalleled scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities. Flora will also feature a unique open-air stargazing platform, something no other Galapagos ship currently offers.
Other unique Galapagos features
Flora will feature a marina at the back of the ship with an easy-on, easy-off Zodiac loading area to facilitate discovery voyages. A permanent Research Laboratory housed aboard the ship will be available to scientists conducting research on the area. In order to prevent scarring the sea bottom, Celebrity Cruises outfitted Flora with a dynamic position system that will allow it to remain in position without the use of anchors.
