New cruises from New Orleans and Galveston feature exciting excursions and gourmet dining options
Boring weekends are a thing of the past now that Carnival is expanding its short cruise schedule with new four and five day cruises to Mexico. Starting in May 2019, Carnival will be offering year-round short itineraries to top Mexico destinations aboard Carnival Valor and Carnival Dream, sailing from New Orleans and Galveston respectively. Carnival’s cruises from New Orleans and Galveston will feature exciting excursions that seem destined to make them popular vacation options.
Exciting Mexico itineraries
4 day weekend cruises will depart from New Orleans and Galveston on Thursdays to travel to Cozumel. Longer five day cruises leaving on Mondays and Saturdays will sail to Cozumel and Progreso. Select five day cruises from Galveston will be calling at Cozumel and Costa Meya.
These cruises sail to top Mexican destinations that offer something for everyone. Guests can wander through mysterious Mayan ruins and historical landmarks, enjoy superb beaches, or experience popular shopping and dining venues. Travelers can choose from an extensive array of shore excursions that include watersports such as paddleboarding, snorkeling, and scuba diving, as well as ATV excursions and zipline tours.
New cruises from New Orleans
Carnival Valor will be moving from Galveston to New Orleans to start its new itineraries on May 16, 2019. Featuring a capacity of 2,974-passengers, the cruise ship will be the largest vessel offering a year-round short cruising schedule from New Orleans. Carnival Valor will be replacing Carnival Triumph, which will be moving to another port. The new cruises from New Orleans represent an almost 10 percent increase in capacity.
Carnival Valor will be joined by Carnival Glory, which will be taking over the New Orleans seven-day cruise schedule from Carnival Dream in May. The cruise itineraries of the two ships are anticipated to be extremely popular, leading them to carry nearly 400,000 passengers from New Orleans.
Carnival Valor recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation. The ship seems custom-designed to offer some of the best 4 day cruises for couples available, with new food and beverage options designed to appeal to adults in addition to an adults-only Serenity retreat. Guests can dine at Guy’s Burger Joint, which was developed jointly with Food Network star Guy Fieri. The extensive bar offerings on Carnival Valor include Alchemy Bar, SkyBox sports bar, and the Caribbean-themed RedFrog Pub where guests can get into the island vibe. Guests can enjoy poolside refreshments at the RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila Bar. Other features include a 214-foot waterslide.
New cruises from Galveston
Carnival Dream will begin offering new year-round four and five day itineraries departing from Galveston on May 23, 2019. The 3,646 passenger cruise ship’s new itinerary represents a 22 percent increase in the program’s capacity. Guests can enjoy a host of entertainment options, including WaterWorks aqua park, the Cloud 9 Spa, and more.
Carnival Dream will feature several new food and beverage venues, starting with Guy’s Pig and Anchor Bar-B-Que designed in tandem with celebrity chef Guy Fieri. Other dining options Blue Iguana Cantina, which serves authentic Mexican fare and the full-service Bonsai Sushi restaurant. Beverage options include cocktail pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar.
Carnival Dream will be joining Carnival Freedom and Carnival Vista, which will be repositioning to Galveston in fall of 2018. Together, the three cruise ships are expected to carry almost 650,000 passengers from Galveston each year, a capacity that is unmatched by any cruise line in the market.
