Can You Smoke on a Cruise Ship?
For those who smoke and are curious what the policies are on cruise ships, we’ve outlined them here!
Smoking on cruise ships is a controversial topic and can get people on both sides of the issue quite upset. Each cruise line has different policies relating to smoking on the ship. Non-smokers are clearly the majority, but when you ask “Can you smoke on a cruise ship?” you’ll find that cruise lines have made arrangements to accommodate their smoking guests as well.

Happy Traveler CommentI started the week singing in my Senior Choir and one of my members cornered me and said, "I know you know Hawaii better than anyone. I want to take some friends there....who do you recommend?" I told her I would hook her up with my California connection and the very best travel agent in America and gave her your phone number! — Betty D.
So where is smoking allowed on cruise ships? We’ve put together a guide for you to follow for cruise line smoking areas including electronic cigarettes unless we have noted otherwise.

Azamara Club
Designated smoking areas are available on each Azamara ship, are clearly marked, and are located on the starboard forward section of the pool deck. The health and comfort of all Azamara guests is always of primary concern. Every other area of their ships are designated non-smoking including restaurants, public rooms, staterooms and suites, verandas and halls, and pool decks. Azamara Cruisetours are also non-smoking unless the tour operator states otherwise. The Azamara Club Cruises’ policy includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and electronic cigarettes.

The safety of guests and crew is a major concern for Carnival Cruise Line. Due to the fire and safety hazards presented by smoking, it is limited to deck areas and designated casino and club spaces that can be easily monitored. Their non-smoking policy applies to all staterooms and suite accommodations, including outside balconies. Cigarettes, pipes, vaporizers, electronic cigarettes and marijuana and any other form of smoking are included in the policy. Policy violations will be fined at $500.00 per violation added to the guest’s Sail & Sign® account and can result in disembarkation of all stateroom guests and may be banned from future cruise on the Carnival Line.
Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity Cruise Ships are designated as non-smoking for the safety and comfort of all guests. In order to accommodate smoking guests, certain areas of each ship are designated as “smoking areas”. This policy applies to all smoking products including electronic cigarettes.
