Carnival is on the verge of introducing the first roller coaster at sea.

When you are planning a cruise, you usually think of sunny tropical beaches, an Alaskan adventure, or maybe a trip through the Panama Canal. Carnival is adding another “must do” cruise, but this time the big attraction is on the ship. It’s the Carnival Cruise roller coaster, and it’s called “BOLT.” The “Ultimate Sea Coaster” is on the Carnival Cruise Mardi Gras ship, an XL-class that accommodates more than 6,500 guests.

Just imagine going 40 miles per hour on a twisty turning roller coaster up high above the ocean. Riders will sit on “motorcycle” style vehicles that can accelerate to over 40 miles per hour, however, the driver can control the speed allowing for slower speeds on the turns. The 800-foot track sits at 187 feet above sea level. From that height, riders get a fantastic view of the ship and the sea. The BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster is an additional charge for passengers.

While the Carnival Cruise Mardi Gras ship will not sail till 2020, you can check out all the Carnival sailings to the Caribbean from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31 here.

Carnival Mardi Gras Activities

If you’re not a fan of heights and don’t want to try the Carnival Cruise roller coaster, there are plenty of other Carnival Cruise activities on the Mardi Gras for you to enjoy including:

• Carnival WaterWorks – This is the largest, most fantastic, and elaborate aquapark. It’s part of Carnival’s “The Ultimate Playground” and is not just for children. This amazing water park has spiraling slides, twin racing slides, a giant dumping bucket, and more. It’s for everyone who is young at heart and loves fun water slides and excitement.

• SportSquare – Discover plenty of friendly game competition at SportSquare. Mini-golf, basketball, rope-climbing, soccer, volleyball, and jogging are all available to play with friends or strangers. Are you into table sports? You’ll find pool, foosball, and ping-pong for fun and competitive action.

• Family Feud™ – You can sign up your team of five players for an audition for one of four live shows on your Mardi Gras cruise. There is even a version for children to play the game. Your fellow passengers will be judging you so get your group together, work up your bravado, and bring it to the audition. If you prefer, you can be part of the studio audience and may get selected to compete in an “Insta-family” version of the game. Get ready for fun!
