There’s a lot of enthusiasm about the agreement between Carnival Corporation and the government of The Bahamas to build two major port developments.

Grand Bahama is to be the home of a new cruise port destination, primarily for the Carnival Cruise Line. This new destination will be on the south side of the island, will have an amazing beachfront, lots of exciting features, and will offer what Carnival is calling “a uniquely Bahamian destination.”

Carnival will be releasing more details as the project gets underway. They will also be constructing a new addition which includes a pier on Little San Salvador Island which is home to Holland America’s port of Half Moon Cay.

Carnival is investing over $100 million on the Grand Bahama port development project and another $80 million (estimated) over an extended period of time. Carnival Corporation’s senior vice president of global port and destination development, Giora Israel, stated: “Our collective goal is to maintain the reputation of The Bahamas as one of our most popular and welcoming destinations for years to come.”

The pre-construction phase begging mid-2020 will provide many jobs and a boost to the rebuilding and recovery effort following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.
